A. Child: We provide summer day and resident programs for children with severe emotional, behavioral, learning and social challenges. Our programs have a 1:1 staff-to-camper ratio at all times. We also offer year-round respite weekends in the fall and winter. Typically, our campers have attempted other summer programs and have not been able to find success, or they are in need of such specialized services that their parent/guardian has not attempted to enroll them in a camp program before. The children who attend Starfish are children who are least likely to find success elsewhere and who benefit from structured, small, therapeutic programs.
B. Adult: None at this time
C. Family: Parent education, networking with families experiencing similar struggles in childraising, respite opportunities
D. Other: Starfish provides internships, fellowships and employment opportunities for 100+ college, grad- and post-grad students annually. Staff receive 140+ hours of hands-on and classroom learning prior to camp, gain experience working with children with extra needs and build their abilities to work with youth who need intensive supports.
Age range: 5 and up (day camp), 6 and up (residential). Serving children and young adults between the ages of 5-18, however cutoff for admission is usually age 14.
